Why we built Rebound

In July 2025, I tore my ACL racing motorcycles. I had surgery, and I have been in rehabilitation ever since. Being part of ACL recovery communities, I saw the same story repeated constantly - people weeks or months post-op, doing their best, but without access to a complete and structured rehabilitation protocol and with no clear sense of whether they were doing the right things or progressing safely.

As a former medical doctor with a background in sports medicine and orthopaedic surgery, I knew the clinical frameworks existed. The protocols physiotherapists use in practice are well-established. But most people recovering from ACL surgery never get consistent access to them.

The reality is that specialist sports physiotherapy is expensive. Most people can't afford to be seen frequently enough for it to make a real difference. And even those who can are left on their own between sessions - no guidance, no structure, no way of knowing whether what they're doing day-to-day is right. On top of that, not everyone lives near a clinic with someone who specialises in ACL recovery, and the gap becomes even wider.

The knowledge to recover well exists. The problem is that it has always been locked behind access. So I built Rebound.

ACL recovery is one of the hardest things you will do

Reconstructing your ACL is just the beginning. The rehabilitation that follows typically takes 9 to 12 months or longer - five distinct phases of daily structured exercise, each with different goals, intensity levels, and milestones. It is as much a mental challenge as a physical one. Fear of re-injury, loss of confidence, and frustration with the pace of progress are part of the journey for almost everyone.

Following a structured protocol is not optional - it is what determines whether you achieve a full recovery. Without one, patients risk returning to activity too early, skipping critical strengthening phases, or losing motivation during the long middle months.

Most patients receive a programme from their surgeon or physiotherapist, but between appointments - which can be weeks apart - there is no guidance on what to do today, whether your pain levels are normal, or whether it is safe to progress.
